The book is the fundamental work of an outstanding domestic historian and archaeologist Academician B.A. Rybakova. The author refers to the topic of the Russian epic: pairing a written tradition - on the materials of the chronicle - and the oral epic tradition. Based on the attraction of a huge source and folklore material, the author exhibits many plot and semantic parallels between these traditions.
