The main work of the famous Russian thinker Professor Petr Alekseevich Miloslavsky (1846–1884) is dedicated to the study of the doctrine of metempsychosis - the process of the soul of a deceased person migrating into the body of another person, animal, or the material shell of a plant. The author examines the origins of beliefs in the immortality of the soul in the pagan culture of the ancient peoples, traces the peculiarities of the development of metempsychosis in ancient philosophy and Gnostic religious movements, as well as among the Manicheans and in the views of early Christian theologians. In the context of the doctrine of the transmigration of the soul, P. A. Miloslavsky presents "a picture of the evolution of human spirituality, the development of philosophy and faith."
