It is known that the Gospel of John contains numerous mysterious dogmatic and spiritual-moral meanings and is especially difficult to understand. The book by P. Malkov, "Ancient Church Interpretations of Difficult Passages in the Gospel of John. Theological Analysis of Source Content. Three Essays," is dedicated to reviewing the patristic interpretations of several fragments of the fourth Gospel. Why did the Lord make mud from spittle and anoint the eyes of the blind man with it during his healing (John 9:6)? For what reason did Jesus weep before raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:35)? And finally, why did the Lord, after His Resurrection, forbid Mary Magdalene to touch Him, saying, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father" (John 20:17), but allowed Thomas to touch Him, saying, "Put your finger here and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side" (John 20:27)? The ancient church answers to these perplexing questions form the basis of the three essays that make up this book.
