An artist needs to know anatomy to correctly draw the human body both at rest and in motion. Mastering the art of depicting the body on paper will be helped by the book of experienced anatomical illustrator Jennifer Crouch. "Anatomy for Artists" is the perfect illustrated guide for both beginners and more experienced artists looking to improve their technique. In this practical guide, the author shows how the human body functions, starting with how the bones of the skeleton connect with each other, and ending with the principles of how muscles and tendons work. The illustrator will also teach you how to create the desired shape and tone, how to achieve realistic skin texture, and how to convincingly reflect various poses, gestures, and movements of a person. Step-by-step lessons will help you easily create accurate and realistic drawings. The book includes the following sections: - Anatomical terms - Formal elements of drawing - Lines, strokes, and texture - Shape, figure, and volume - Perspective and anatomical drawing - Tone and shadow - Texture - Contour, pose, and gestures - Proportions of the human body - Anatomy: skeleton - Musculoskeletal system - Muscles and bones of the limbs - Skin and subcutaneous fat - Torso - Functional descriptions in anatomy - Anatomy of the face and skull - Muscles of the mouth area - Teeth and jaw - Eye - Ear - Nose - Hair - Movement - Portrait "Anatomical drawing is much more than form, function, and perfect proportions. In this book, I have tried to demonstrate anatomy in all its immense beauty and provide descriptions of various techniques that can help artists learn to draw human bodies. Just as there is no right or wrong anatomy, there is no right or wrong way to reflect it <...> Realism is certainly not the only way to draw anything: abstract scribbles, a minimal amount of strokes, or expressive children's sketches can also capture the nuances of personality. The practical tips presented in this book will help in developing what some call 'technical,' 'realistic,' or even 'academic' drawing," – Jennifer Crouch About the author Jennifer Crouch is an educator, researcher, and artist.
