The book includes the most vivid essays of the American writer and political activist Emma Goldman (1869-1940), who fought for social justice, gender equality, and universal suffrage. Having emigrated from the Russian Empire, Goldman brought not only the humanistic ideals of the Russian intelligentsia to American soil but also the revolutionary ideas of Russian anarchists. In her articles, the publicist raises questions about the position of women and the institution of marriage, discusses the true goals of Anarchism, and the harmful influence on the individual and society of any forms of exploitation. The writings are preceded by a biographical essay written by Hippolyte Havel, a friend and comrade of Emma Goldman.
