In modern conditions, a large proportion of surgical interventions for congenital heart defects are performed in infancy, which requires the diagnostician to have in-depth knowledge of the anatomical and physiological features of the cardiovascular system during this period. This educational manual presents an analysis of electrocardiographic changes in infants with congenital heart defects in their first year of life. The manual includes information on age-related characteristics of electrocardiograms, considering the fact that a normal ECG in early-age children significantly differs from that in older children. It also provides general information on ECG changes in congenital heart defects, relevant for the early age period. Furthermore, clinical examples of children with congenital heart defects are presented with a detailed analysis of the association between ECG phenomena and anatomical changes in the heart, which, according to the authors, allows the practicing physician to enhance diagnostic search capabilities and understanding of the role of ECG at different stages of surgical treatment of congenital heart defects in young children. This manual is intended for practicing pediatric cardiologists, neonatologists, and pediatricians, but can also be useful for training students and clinical residents in relevant specialties.
