"Case in Moscow" is a prequel to the already released books of a new detective series by Yulia Yakovleva. The action takes place in 1812. The author combines the chosen era with the atmosphere of a modern "cool" detective: a St. Petersburg hussar Murin, who involuntarily becomes a detective, reveals a crime that looks modern but could have happened in any era. October 1812. The Napoleon army has just left Moscow. The first Russian hussars, entering the city, are struck by its burnt and devastated appearance. Patrolling the streets, the rotmistress Murin and his comrade find themselves at a partially destroyed mansion. Hearing a desperate female scream in French, Murin decides to intervene and rushes inside. Something strange seems to be happening, then a sudden explosion, and everything is engulfed in smoke. War erases any baseness - that's how the criminal thinks. But Murin is determined to find the truth and restore justice.
