Roman "Along the Front" of the American Writer and Publicist John Reed, sent by the military correspondent to the Balkans and to Russia in 1915, is the result of a trip along the eastern outskirts of the warring Europe during the First World War. The trip was to continue for three months, but was dragged on more than six months: by visiting Lviv (Lemberg), the author fell into the "Great Russian Retreat.
The book is interesting not only by the brilliant truthful sketches of the gloomy and peculiar "front life", it clearly feels the process of compassous patiraism of the author in a hot principal protest against the imperialist nature of the war
