Alexander Sergeyevich Yakovlev (1896-1989) was a legendary Soviet aircraft designer. During the Great Patriotic War, he was the chief designer of the production design bureau of the Special Aviation Trust of the Aviation Industry, and simultaneously the deputy People's Commissar of the aviation industry for new technology. In his memoirs, the author vividly and honestly recalls everything related to the war, starting from the first days of the war and the air defense of Moscow in the fall of 1941, to the organization of fighter production at a machine-building plant in Siberia, and ending with the parade on Red Square in Moscow on June 24, 1945.
