The basis of the book by the well-known preacher, missionary, theologian, and publicist, Archpriest Oleg Stenyaev, "Heavenly Customs, or The Exam That Cannot Be Avoided," consists of lectures he delivered at various times in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, in other monasteries, and parish churches. The publication discusses the value of earthly life, death, and sheds light on the biblical and patristic justification of the teaching on customs - a kind of exam that the human soul undergoes after death. A detailed account of each of the twenty customs concludes with a narrative of what awaits the soul of each of us afterwards: the particular judgment, the afterlife fate of man, the resurrection of the dead, and the Last Judgment.

The mistake of many people is that they postpone the moment of repentance until death, although, of course, they do not know when their last hour will come. They consider themselves healthy and strong and do not think much about the fact that health and strength can disappear in an instant,' writes the author of the book.
