“The most truthful poetry is fiction,” said the English poet and playwright William Shakespeare.
The “fictional truth” of his creations turned out to be a nucleus, the center around which a huge Shakespearean universe was formed.
In sonnets, William Shakespeare speaks mainly about love, which “does not know the loss and decay” and has many guises. In the erotic poem “Venus and Adonis”, an obsession with a passion in the very earthly sense of the word is revealed: the goddess of love unsuccessfully searches for reciprocity from the mortal young man of dazzling beauty. The poem “Escified Lucretia” was based on the tragic story of the beautiful and virtuous Roman Matrona.
