Andre Morua, a classic of French literature of the 20th century, the author of the famous novelized biographies of Dumas, Balzac, Victor Hugo and others, is considered a true master of a psychological novel. However, it was the short story throughout life that was his favorite genre. The collection “Violets on Wednesdays” included novels of different years - the true masterpieces of low prose, amazing painted with lyricism, subtle irony, equipped with an unexpected denouement.
Unfortunately, the Russian reader “Violets on Wednesdays” for more than half a century has been gone for the most part in a very truncated version (with the exception of the 2012 publication, only a third of the original composition has usually been printed) It is all the more pleasant to imagine this pearl thread of the short story of Morois, which continued the brilliant tradition of Balzac, Stendhal, Maupassant
