Paul Tselan (1920-1970) is the largest German -speaking lyrics of the post -war era, the last great tragic poet of the twentieth century. Music is written to his poems today, they are included in the liturgical action of the Protestant and Catholic churches, according to their motives, the famous artist Anselm Kififer created a grandiose cycle of paintings and sculptures "memory of Paul Tselan" (2006)
Born in Romania, on Bukovina, in a German -speaking Jewish family, Tselan from 1939 to 1945 was a citizen of the USSR, studied at the Faculty of Philology of Chernivtsi University. In 1942-1944 He was in the German concentration camp on forced labor, in 1945 he left for Romania, and since 1948 he lived in France, in Paris. In 1970, Tselan committed suicide, rushing into the Senu from the Mosta bridge.
Cosmopolitan-intellectual, Tselan fluently owned German, Romanian, French, Russian, English and two Jewish languages (Idish and Hebrew), and his hermeneutic lyrics contains roll calls with French, Russian, German and English writers of different eras, with Jewish. mysticism and modern philosophy. Tselan is also known as a translator, in particular Russian poets, in the German language - Mandelstam, Blok, Khlebnikov, Mayakovsky, etc.
This publication includes translations of all six lifetime books of Celan, prepared by him personally for printing and designed by the Giselia de Letranzh-Tslan
