The Montean’s travel diary has been almost unknown in Russia to the present. The manuscript, accidentally found 178 years after the death of its author, was first published in France in 1774. It was time to present a "diary" and the Russian reader.
Montension experiences and love all over the world, but few people know that after their journey through Germany, Switzerland and France, Montigne brought more than six hundred addings to the two already published volumes and wrote the third volume, a significant part which is observations taken by him from his travel notes. An attentive reader will certainly pay attention to this roll call between the "diary" and "experiments" - books mutually complement each other, deepening and expanding the understanding of certain fragments.
In Russian, the work is published for the first time.
Translation from French Leonid Efimov
