Jerome Clapka Jerome began his work as a handyman, he lost his parents early and was forced to earn on his own at the age of 13. He happened to try himself in an acting craft, he was a teacher, a packer, secretary ... The first literary experiments were unsuccessful - the manuscripts with his stories were invariably returned. In 1888, Jerome married and spent a honeymoon in Thames in a small boat. This life experience formed the basis of his most famous story - "Three in the boat, not counting the dog." The prototypes of the heroes were his closest friends. The story was printed in 1889 and brought the author the long -awaited success. In the first two decades after the first publication, more than a million copies of the book were sold in the world, the number of boats on Thames doubled, and the river itself became an important tourist attraction. This story became the peak of the writer"s work. Having gained financial independence, he worked a lot in the literary field, but he would not be able to approach the deafening success of the adventures of three friends on the Thames.
