The novel "Thirty -year -old woman", which gave rise to the expression "woman of Balzac age", is part of the large cycle "Human Comedy". Balzac worked on this novel for a long time, from 1829 to 1842, processing the already written stories. The text of the novel is given in the translation of A. A. Khudadova. The publication is decorated with illustrations made by the French artist Charles Ward. His works emphasize the characters of the heroes of the novel and help to present the environment.
In 1844, six years before the death, Balzak began to prepare his "human comedy" for the second edition - a large -scale cycle of novels and stories, which reflected all the features of the French society of the first half of the 19th century, starting with the restoration of the monarchy. It seemed that Balzac wanted to fix everything that he saw and heard what he had read about. From under his pen came stories, novels and novels about the life of Parisians and provincials, about the experiences and problems of people are little noticeable and significant. He wrote with greed, and seemed uninterruptedly, spending daily at a desk of 15-16 hours. The list of things that made up the "human comedy" turned out to be a little more than nine dozen works. The names of some are world -famous - "Gobsek", "Father Gorio", "Eugene Granda", "Brill between Curtains". Others, such as the "life of a bachelor" or a "business person" are less familiar to domestic readers. It is worth noting that the “human comedy” is distinguished by through characters from the usual collected works. Some of them, such as a cooking dorosh or artist Brido, appear in dozens of novels. Balzac conceived his grandiose epic as a whole, as a kind of monumental panorama, where heroes are united by a common theater backdrop - the time and place of action.
The novel "Thirty -year -old woman" took his own, two -second place in the list drawn up by the writer, giving rise to a sustainable expression over time - "Woman of Balzac"s Age". The writer worked on this novel for a long time, for about ten years, connecting, rafting, sewing up the previously written stories. I had to add several new pieces of text, eliminating the gaps and getting the total volume to the level of a full -fledged novel. As a result, he came out heterogeneous, consisting of six large parts, however, this is a certain advantage of this work. It is no accident that the novel "Thirty -year -old woman" is rightly considered one of the most famous works of "human comedy".
This edition is decorated with drawings of the Parisian schedule Charles Uard. Starting to publish his drawings in French newspapers, he quickly earned a reputation as a talented drawingman. Ward perfectly grabbed the poses, emotions and movements of people. Later, work began on illustrations for great literature. Ward performed drawings to forty volumes of Balzac"s works. The artist left behind many drawings. In them, as in the works of Balzac, the life surrounding his life was recorded in its entirety. This is evidenced by the names of such Ward series as" New York, as I saw him "," Berlin, as I saw him, and others like them
