The action of the novel "The Defender of the Poach" from the "Yoknapatofi Cycle" unfolds in the fictional district of Yokoknapatof, which, however, embodied all the real features and problems of the American South.
Lucasa Bicham, a dark -skinned farmer, mistakenly accused of killing a white man. It seems that his fate is a foregone conclusion: lynching awaits ahead. But unexpectedly, Chick Mallison, a white guy, whom Lucas saved several years ago, pulling out of the ice of ice, bursts into his life. To reveal the crime and achieve justice, he is even ready to dig a grave in which the victim is buried and become a defiler of dust
