Rural England in the mid -19th century. Two sisters live in the Ollington estate, who are not averse to getting married, but beauty and kind character are their only dowry. Both, despite the young age, show great wisdom, sincerely believing that happiness is not in money and that under any kind should not agree to marriage by calculation. However, the desire for disinterested love does not save from mistakes. One of the sisters is passionate about the metropolitan dandy, which thinks too mundanely to evaluate her disinterestedness, and the other in search of love is so blind that it risks not to notice a worthy fan who is very close ... So in the novel “Small House in Ollington” Classic of English literature Anthony Trollop (1815-1882) reveals the theme of brides prisoners, which was previously affected by Jane Austin and Charlotte Bronte.
The basis of this publication is an anonymous translation of the novel, presumably executed by V.V. Butuzov and published in the 1860s in the magazine Contemporary. To facilitate perception in the text, a number of obsolete words and expressions are replaced. The translation is sparkled with original English text and in some cases corrected for the sake of greater accuracy. The second volume included chapters XXXI - LX
