The journalistic, historical and political works of Winston Churchill are known to many, but his artistic prose has never been published in Russian. Meanwhile, Churchill’s novel “Savrolla or the Revolution in Lauranty” once was a huge success and withstood several publications in England and America.
The events of the novel unfold in a fictional country. In this country, the cruel tyrant runs the only hero of the book by Savrol, a convinced democrat and a supporter of reforms. The rebellious people overthrow the tyrant, he dies on the steps of his own palace. However, the victory of freedom and democracy is overshadowed by the machinations of a secret anarchist society, whose members are supporters of violence.
In the image of the protagonist of Roman Churchill, he showed himself and put into this character many features of his character and his ideas about life.
In 1953, Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature
