Natsum Soeches (1867 - 1916) - one of the most famous Japanese writers of the late XIX - early XX centuries. He was considered his teacher to be such luminaries of Japanese literature as Akutagawa Ryunoske, Dadzai Osamu, Yasunari Kawabata. The author of numerous novels and stories, an insightful critic, a talented poet and an original artist, he left a vivid mark in the culture of the Meiji era, a difficult period of Japanese history, in which the old, traditional culture came into conflict with the modern Western.
He was one of the most educated representatives of the completely Europeanized Japanese intelligentsia at the beginning of the 20th century. And at the same time - a typical Japanese. It is always called "Eddocco" - "indigenous Edos", that is, a person, both by birth, and in taste, and in the nature of the city of Tokyo, in the past - the old Shogun capital of Edo. This duality allowed him to create his own unique literary style, which is still attractive to modern readers.
