Salambo is a phenomenal historical novel of the outstanding French prose writer Gustav Flaubert (1821–1880) This is a work about the ancient city of Carthage, its conflicts and objective realities.
The actions of the novel unfold during the uprising of troops in the 3rd century. BC, when dissatisfied mercenaries, angry with a delay in salary, decide to seize the city. The reader gradually reveals complex interweaving of political forces with severe social processes, a whole cultural era with all its riot of colors and feelings, its own morals and customs passes.
