For the first time, characters with the names of Romeo and Juliet appeared in world literature in 1524 in the novel by Luigi and Porto "The story of two noble lovers and their sad death." Although the plot of the persecuted pair existed earlier, Ovid in his "metamorphoses" mentioned him. The genius of Shakespeare was able to transform this common story into a great tragedy, which excites the hearts and remains relevant in all eras in different parts of the globe.
Russian literary critic Vissarion Belinsky wrote about this work: "The pathos of Shakespeare"s drama" Romeo and Juliet "constitutes the idea of love - and therefore with fiery waves sparkling bright light of stars, enthusiastic pathetic speeches pour out of the lips of lovers ...
