"Roman about Tristan and Isolde" (1900) is a free reconstruction of the legend of Tristan, dating back to the XII century, which brought Joseph trouble to world writing fame. The tragic love story, collected from numerous passages, was expertly translated from Star French into modern French. In the subtle stylization of J. Bede, he resurrected the ancient artless intonation of the novel, cleared it of unnecessary details, putting all his scholarship and literary talent to this. In his studies, he irrefutably proved that all the well -known versions of this plot go back not to the shapeless corps of Celtic fairy tales, as it was considered before, but to one lost source - the French poem of the XII century
