The irrigation in Crimea began in the middle of the last century. The irrigation systems were built against the background of continuous plowing of lands, not only suitable for agricultural production, but also on unsuitable for agriculture: Solonets and salt marshes.
More than half a century ago, it was on these obviously unsuitable soils, a grandiose experiment was put on the implementation of rice into production without any preliminary scientific and technical training. But the branch of the rice is shown its high agronomic, economic and social efficiency.
The authors based on many years of research, generalization of literary data and production experience outlines their views on urgent environmental problems of drawing. The adaptive capabilities of rice culture, its influence on the environment, as well as the technology of cultivation, which takes into account the rational use of resources without prejudice to the environment, are described in detail.
