The satirical novel “Island of Penguins”, written by the classic of French literature Anatole France (1844-1924), is a subtle parody of the history of mankind, presented as the history of the fictional country of Penguin.
The narrative begins with the life of St. Mael, who was so carried away by the missionaries that he mistakenly christened the penguins, thereby causing a real commotion in paradise. To correct the oversight, the saint was forced to turn the penguins into people, and now the newly -naked penguin people will pass the same stages of historical development as all European peoples: from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century
