The romance of "peace" of the Turkish writer Ahmed Hamdi Tanpinar (1901-1962) is the first only model of mixing of the techniques of European modernism and canons of Middle Eastern Muslim literature in Turkish literature. The action of the novel unfolds in Istanbul against the backdrop of vivid historical events of the 20th century - the overthrow of the Ottoman dynasty and the First World War, the war for independence in Turkey, the formation of the Turkish Republic and the eve of World War II. The heroes of the novel are asked by the traditional issues of self -determination, trying to understand where their paths of history lead them and their country - to the west or east.
"peace" is not only a classic work of Turkish literature of the 20th century, but also opens before the reader new horizons in the knowledge of the beautiful and peculiar phenomenon of Turkish (and lying in its foundation of the Ottoman) culture
