Louise May Olcott is an American writer, author of the famous story “Little Women”, who brought Alcott to world glory and love of readers. And so far the book remains one of the most significant works of American literature “for girls”, and not only for girls. As one of the contemporaries of the author wrote, the writer"s work touches the heart of youth of any age - from six to sixty. Peru Olcott also belong to other works, translated into dozens of languages and underlying many films and theatrical productions. Among them is the story “Old Fine Girl” (1869), presented in this edition. The main character, the fourteen -year -old Polly, like the author, was born in a poor, but very friendly family. From early childhood, Polly learned that the main values in life are hard work, mutual support and sanity. She is convinced that wealth and external shine mean little in comparison with responsiveness and kindness and, of course, real happiness or love cannot be bought. However, having arrived to stay with his friend Fanny, Polly feels like a white sheep: her modesty and simple -hearted, her discreet dresses look infinitely old -fashioned in a luxurious girlfriend, who flaunts bright outfits surrounded by a crowd of young gentlemen
