England was beginning of the XIX century. Fanny - a girl from a poor family - is on the estate of her rich relatives, where she lives and is brought up for more than one year and enters at the time of youth. It is believed that the very fact of being in such a chosen society opens up broad prospects for Fanny, but in reality it is a disenfenity survival, and it has no prospects. Her abilities are underestimated, her opinion is not taken into account. All she can count on is to become a companion for some wealthy lady, that is, to become someone else"s shadow. And even a profitable marriage will not allow young Fanny to freely choose her path in life, if this marriage is not for love.
