Sigrid Unset (1882-1949) is the famous Norwegian writer, Nobel Laureate of Literature.
In the novel "Madame Dortei", one of the most interesting works of Norwegian literature, it is told about Norway at the end of the 18th century. The reader meets with the heroine of the novel, the wife of the manager of the glass factory, in the tragic time of her life, when her husband dies. How to live alone with children, how to solve conflicts with matured sons, eager to break out of parental custody? How to cope with rumors and build relationships with neighbors? The most important thing for Madame Dortei in these circumstances is to live with dignity. And you can’t bloom, because there is still for what to live.
The sensation of a slight sadness remains with the reader - the story of this family did not end, and somewhere there, behind the last book page, where we cannot look, Madame Dortei is still fighting, still living.
The novel is deprived of excessive emotionality, a leisurely narrative, details of everyday life - all this gives us the opportunity to think about morality, religion, duty, maternal love - basic life issues.
I write - for me this is a natural reaction to everything that I thought about what I saw and understood in people and events that took place around me.
