The famous novel by Gustav Flaubert “Madame Bovary” is deservedly considered one of the masterpieces of world literature, although after the first publication of the novel in 1856, his author was charged with insulting morality and he was involved in court. Later, these accusations were removed, and “Madame Bovary” took her worthy place among the literary classics of the 19th century. In this edition, the text of the novel is given in the translation of A. N. Chebotarevskaya and illustrated by the drawings of Alfred de Rishmon, which are as accurate in detail as the text of the great French prose writer. The novel Madam Bovary is the most famous work of Gustav Flaubert, which is deservedly considered one of the largest European writers of the 19th century. Flobert began to work on this work in the fall of 1851. At that time he had been bent for thirty years - the time of writing maturity. Careful work on the text lasted about five long years. The painstaking work literally on every phrase was by this time already a kind of “branded handwriting” of the writer. It is no coincidence that Flobert is deservedly considered one of the most important harbingers of literary naturalism, which later fruitfully and consistently developed Emil Zola. Thanks to the search for the necessary and most accurate words, Flaubert became a wonderful stylist, and the translation of Anastasia Nikolaevna Chebotarevskaya allows you to fully enjoy the text of his novel. She knew the French language very well - she studied it in several higher institutions of tsarist Russia. In St. Petersburg, becoming the wife of the writer F.K. Sologub, she opened the literary salon, which was visited by the most prominent writers who created at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition to Flaubert, Chebotarevskaya translated the works of Stendhal, Maupassant, Rollan, Meterlink. Her translation of Madame Bovary is deservedly considered classic. Flaubert began to write early, back in his school years. The craving for literature compensated him for dissatisfaction with his own life. Gustav grew up in the family of the head of the surgical department of the hospital in Rouen, and his father was a man with a difficult character. Despite the financial well -being of a typical bourgeois family, Flobert felt uncomfortable in her. Having become adults, he refused to marry and make a family, not wanting to bring children to the world in which people often have to earn “shameful existence”. Submitting to the desire of his father, Flobert began to study jurisprudence in Paris, but soon he threw these classes, referring to his health - he had epileptic seizures. The inheritance that Gustav received after the death of his father allowed him to completely surrender to literary work and begin to travel. However, in the last years of the writer’s life, financial problems have been harassed. Flaubert died in May 1880 as a result of a stroke. The text of his most famous novel is illustrated by the beautiful drawings of the French artist Alfred Field Marie de Rishmon. He was thirty -six years older than Flaubert and, unlike him, lived all his life in Paris, whose life knew in the smallest details. In his drawings, Rishmon managed to accurately convey in detail the background on which the plot of “Madame Bovary” unfolds
