They argued a lot about the books of David Herbert Lawrence during his lifetime and in subsequent years. Lawrence, whose name stands on a par with the names of James Joyce, Thomas Sternza Eliot and Virginia Wolf, admired and indignant, was extolled and overthrown, he was read out and declared them obscene. But one thing was always obvious: Lawrence, author of the novels “Rainbow”, “Women in love”, “Lady Chatterly"s lover” and others, is one of the largest English writers of the 20th century.
