"Love your neighbor" (1939) is a novel about German emigrants forced to wander around pre -war Europe. They hide, starve, secretly cross the boundaries, many of their relatives and friends in concentration camps. Having lost their homeland and the usual way of life, exposed to mortal danger, the heroes of Remarque still find the strength for compassion and love.
