The end of the XIX century. The next group of pilgrims arrives in Lournet, a small city in the south of France, to visit the famous Grotto Masabiel, to pray there in front of the statue of the Virgin Mary Lourdska and, possibly, beg the wonderful healing for herself or her loved ones. Among the pilgrims is the young girl Marie, who has not been able to walk for seven years. She is accompanied by a priest Pierre, secretly from everyone in love with his ward. He hopes that Marie will receive healing and then, if he leaves the dignity, he can be happy with her. Thus begins one of the most famous novels of the French classic Emil Zola - a novel about what Vera gives people and that she takes from them
