“Lost Illusions” tell the story of the young poet Lucien de Ryubampra from Angulem, who is desperately trying to make a name in Paris in a literary and journalistic field. He is poor, naive, but very ambitious. Unable to make a name in his shit of a provincial city, he falls under the auspices of the rich married woman Louise de Bargeton, and hopes to put his way into the highest coin. But the reputation for Madame de Bargeton is more important, she throws him, and Bomond people do not want to let him into their circle. And then Lucien understands that the talent costs nothing in comparison with money, intrigues and unprincipled. Talking to us about Lucien’s path, Balzac brilliantly depicts a realistic and satirical portrait of provincial and Parisian morals, aristocratic life. This extraordinary novel about unrealized ambitions, deceived hopes, is a reflection on time and society, about loss and disappointment
