“Little Women” by Louise May Olcott is a novel on which more than one generation of readers around the world was brought up. First published in 1868 in the United States, this work was translated into more than 50 languages and was the basis of six films, four television series, several operas and performances. The story of the march family, in which four friendly, but unlike each other, are growing up, contains recognizable ups and downs of youth, growing up, friendship and love.
Russian readers “Little Women” are known for the transfigation of the novel for middle school age, which, however, does not reflect all the artistic merits of the text. In this publication, for the first time, a new translation by Irina Immortal is published with sensitive observance of the language manner that was inherent in the author of the book. The deliberate incorrectness of the speech of a number of characters characteristic of that era of jargonism, as well as those invented by heroines and the words used in home use give the text the aroma of the 19th century. Such an inventive approach to the translation of the novel greatly expands its audience and is able to interest both young and adult readers
