The fate of the novel "Lady Chatterly"s lover" is sad and beautiful. Its author David Herbert Lawrence (1885-1930) seemed to have set the task of shocking English society in all ways available to him. Criticism regularly accused him of immorality, pacifism, pornography, promotion of debauchery and undermining moral principles. The peak of the accusations fell on the finale of life and creativity, the novel "Lady Chatterly"s lover". In 1928, immediately after the release, the novel was prohibited. For thirty years he spread in different semi -legal ways - and, largely thanks to the ban on the writer"s homeland, his fame grew throughout the world. Finally, in 1960, after the loud trial, the novel was also allowed in England. By this moment, he was already ranked for the unconditional classic of English literature of the twentieth century. For merits? Today"s reader will calmly perceive the pages that once outraged the stiff audience, and, I think, will appreciate the subtle psychologism, the drama of the plot and literary skill of the author. Or maybe he will even put himself in the place of any of the heroes of this incredible love triangle and sympathize with him. Because everyone deserves sympathy.
