Kristina Hoflener is the second novel by Stefan Zweig, written in the 1930s, discovered in the writer’s archives and published only 40 years after his death.
The very young Christina Hoflener erupts the semi-nascent existence in a small Austrian village. The future does not promise her anything but dull work by local mail, worries about a sick mother and meager salary. However, suddenly everything changes. Aunt - in the past, a keeper who managed to marry an American millionaire, invites her niece to join her at a chic Swiss resort. It seems like the whole world falls to the feet of a village girl, showered with mercy and gifts of a relative. But for a long time, happiness smiled at her? ..
The plot of the novel is the basis of the film Hop Transfiguration, shot by the master of French cinema Eduar Mollynro. And for the film “Grand Budapest Hotel”, according to the director, a description of the luxurious hotel in Switzerland was taken from the text of the novel.
The collection includes the “Chess Novel”, as well as the short stories “at dusk” and “Leporell”
