"Imaginary portraits" is a collection of bright, fresh and highly artistic short stories Walter Pater (also Patter, 1839–1894), united by topics of individual sensory experience, experiencing art as a reality with a motive for death. For an Oxford teacher, art critic, intellectual and aesthet, the book became the last finished artwork. Each of the four short stories reflects the features of the life and customs of France, Flanders, Holland and Germany of the time that describes a separate story. The collection also includes the story "House of Childhood", excerpts from the novel "Mari-Epicurean", and comments by A. Markov
