Thomas Mine Reed (1818-1883), who wrote under the pseudonym Captain Mine Reed, is hardly needed by the recommendations: all over the world, including Russia, he is well known for more than a century and a half. Many generations of young readers grew on his novels, more than a million hearts were touched by the heroes of the Quarteron, "American Partisans", "Horseman without Heads" and many others. However, the complete, scientific publication of his works is neither in England nor in America, to this day his unknown things, lost in the old periodicals, continue to be revealed. This applies primarily to the genres, which were never considered before "something important" in his work. This applies primarily to his many stories and poems, which has never gathered under the same cover.
Opens the currently proposed selection of 20 stories that appeared in American newspapers in 1844-1849: not one of them was reprinted and, moreover, was translated into Russian. The second part of the book contains a complete translation of the posthumous collection "Pierced Heart and other stories" (1885), also fully published in Russian for the first time.
