The novel “Disde” is a tragic story about Italian revolutionaries, told by the writer and translator Ethel Lilian Voynich (1864-1960) The book first saw the light in New York, and then in London in 1897. Almost two years after the completion of work on the “ovate”, the author could not find the publisher, but after the publication there was a muffler success, special in Russia. It was in our country that this book was especially appreciated, repeatedly filmed, not to mention numerous performances for motives, as well as opera and ballet productions. According to Ethel, Lilian Voinich, the most beloved occupation for her was to disassemble letters from Russian readers, because the writer knew the Russian language well and even spent two years in Russia in the late 1880s
