The work of Pierre Mack Orlan (1882-1970), one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, the sign of France of the last century, is truly exceptional. It impresses with its scale and depth and at the same time - appeal to the widest reader"s audience. In his texts there is a genuine, living France in the entire palette of its contrasts, from the Parisian bottom with its prostitutes and clochars to radiant barons and lionesses of the High World. Creations of Mack Orlan, traveler, artist, veteran of the First World War, military correspondent, pillar of the Parisian bohemia, the author of the most popular songs, the center of attraction of the intellectual elite, the theorist of "social fantastic", is an endless fascinating adventure when you do not have time to take a breath. His famous laughter - innocent, scabrand, infectious to death, laughter over the absurdity of being - sounded at the twilight of mankind, over the sleeping Europe, extinguished the lights.
The popularity of the writer is only growing over the years. The first editions of his works, as a rule, are remarkably illustrated, are sold by Bukinists at incredibly high prices. Modern reprints of most of its texts do not leave the shelves of bookstores.
It is no coincidence that one of the Parisian squares is named after Mac Orlan.
All his best creations, specially translated for the present publication by leading domestic translators, entered the two -volume. The foundation of the publication was the novel "Embankment of the Tumanov" (1927, in 1938, Marseel Carn, according to the script of Jacques Perevre, in the main roles, Jean Gaben and Michelle Morgan), central for the writer"s work.
Pierre Mac Orlan was not without reason called the forerunner. The basis of his works are the plots, which in the XX century. will gain incredible popularity. In the novel-Tail of the Tri8 (1919) is anticipated the "Castard" of J. Orwell. The story "Negro Leonard and master Johann Mullen" (1920) amazingly reminiscent of the Master and Margarita "M.A. Bulgakova: Red -haired temptress, magic ointment, night flights on a broomstick, a shabash of witches near the French village ... Madness and comic stupidity of war, soldier"s friendship, the loss of a "lonely soldier on huge earth", booming silence over the battlefields - all this is the atmosphere of the novel "" Slag ”, conceived back in 1919 and as if preceding the prose of the“ lost generation ”. The adventure novel "Anchor of Mercy" (1941) is a real book bestseller, comparable in popularity with the Treasure Island "R.-L. Stevenson.
In an article by E.N. Shevyakova is described in detail about the life and work of the writer, all translations are thoroughly commented.
It is recommended to the widest circle of readers
