Roman Guy de Maupassana "Dear Friend" remains relevant to this day. The career ladder of the protagonist, journalist Georges Durua, is composed of the beds of the wives of influential magnates and officials. In his rapid take -off from the mediocre reporter to the political observer and the son -in -law of one of the richest people in France, Durua relies exclusively on a sore mind and a pretty appearance. “The future belongs to the rogues",” notes one of the heroes of the novel, and it is difficult for the modern reader to disagree with him.
The artist Konstantin Ivanovich Rudakov created illustrations for the novel in the 1930s, but managed to accurately convey the characters, the mood of the heroes and the atmosphere of the eternal holiday, in which Georges Durua lived
