What can be said about the best novel by Miguel Cervantes, which would no longer be said? Don Quixote is four hundred years old and almost all this time he stands in the first ten of the greatest books of mankind. And the Nobel Institute declared it the best artistic work in the history of world literature.
conceived as a parody of knightly novels - the fantasy of that time - Don Quixote absorbed all the layers of the Renaissance literature. The Moorish novels, the Plutovsk Roman, the Spanish romsect, the poems of the Italian Renaissance - everything was reflected in this great work. In turn, the masterpiece of Cervantes had a tremendous influence on the development of world literature and art-it was not by chance that Vladimir Nabokov claimed that reading other novelists, with Don Quixote, in a sense, we would not part for a minute.
But the most important thing is that after four hundred years, Don Quixote remains damn fascinating reading!
In 1855, the outstanding French illustrator Gustav Dorea went to Spain, to the homeland of a glorious knight to convey the local flavor and see the places that he glorified with his exploits. The artist created by the artist, published in 1863, and to this day serves to decorate more and more reprints of the novel by Cervantes in many languages of the world
