The novel by Alexander Dumas "Countess de Monsoro" is one of the masterpieces of the great writer along with the "three musketeers" and "Count Monte Cristo". The action of this exciting love story takes place in the second half of the 16th century, during the religious wars and the reign of Henry III, the last king of the Valois dynasty. In the center of the plot is the adventures of two lovers: the noble Count de Bussy and Diana de Monsoro, who was forced to get married in order to save her honor and hide from the encroachments of the king’s brother. The inexhaustible fantasy, the rapid style of the narrative, a brightly and reliably drawn historical background are those ingredients from which this is a refined literary dish for all lovers of historical and adventure literature. This edition reproduces a complete set of magnificent illustrations of the famous French artist Maurice Leluar (1853-1940), first published in the 1903 Paris edition
