Voltaire was almost the same age as the Enlightenment of the Enlightenment - and later its symbol. His works, written easily, brightly and witty, were aimed against the church and religious fanaticism, the absolute power of kings and legal arbitrariness. It was thanks to Voltaire that another synonym for the concepts of “freedom” appeared in the world - such people began to be called “Voltairens”.
Candide stirred up a whole layer of social and philosophical problems of the mid -18th century. The unpretentious story of the wanderings in the world of the young man and his love for the lovely cungund is only the basis on which Voltaire builds a whole system of accusations against the state, ministers of the church, and military officials. Is the world around us so beautiful and is there really noble and simple -mindedness in it? Does philosophy always provide us with support in difficult times or sometimes it turns into a non -resistance?
