1959, Hardborough. The recently widowed Florence Green risks everyone to open a bookstore in a small coastal town. It seems to her that this undertaking can change her life and the life of neighbors for the better. But not everyone likes her venture. Some are sure: books cannot bring much benefit - neither an individual person, nor even more so the city. One of these people, Mrs. Gamar, will do everything to close the bookstore and create a fashionable “center of art” in its place. And she may succeed, because on her side power and money are on her side.
Will a simple woman be able to save her brainchild and prove to others that books are not at all nonsense, but a real treasure?
