The famous Belgian playwright Maurice Meterlink went down in the history of literature as the creator of the romantic image of a blue bird - a symbol of alluring and elusive happiness, in pursuit of which people again and again go on a trip to the ends of the world. The pursuit of the Blue Bird became the numerous theatrical productions of the play of the same name (for the first time it was presented in Russia, on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater, in 1908) and a number of film adaptations, including the famous 1976 Soviet-American kinuzik. The popularity of this image was somewhat overshadowed in the memory of culture by the other works of the playwright, whose work was a remarkable page in the history of the symbolist theater of the early twentieth century. In this collection, along with the “Blue Bird”, it includes its continuation (“betrothal”), as well as the plays “Uninvited”, “Blind”, “Pelleas and Melizanda”, “There, inside”, “Death of Tentazhil” and “Miracle St. Anthony.
