The novel "American tragedy" tells the story of one murder. The witty and exciting narrative transfers us at the beginning of the 20th century to a small town in the west of America, where the young Clyde Grifits, an employee at the collar factory, drowned the girl who became pregnant from him. A banal plot, but not at Theodore Dreiser. The action -packed novel turns out to be the story of the murder of more than a girl, but the whole generation of Americans who grew up in the conviction that for the sake of a high position in society you can make any sacrifices.
