"On the love of" Stendhal (1822) is the brightest treatise of the classic of French literature, for the first time associated the manifestations of love with the nature of the peoples and the characteristics of historical eras. Stendhal argued that love is not just a feeling, but a special work with its own character. Having abandoned any idealistic explanations of love, the writer tied her with a sense of shame as a social feeling. Observations of Stendhal over the reasons for the emergence of love have become important for the novel drama throughout the 19th century. In this edition, Streaml’s treatise is supplemented by the preface of Professor of the Russian State Humanitarian University Alexander Markov
