The famous and unlucking novel by Alexander Dumas-Syn translated by S. M. Antik about the dramatic love between the Parisian courtesan dying from the consumption of consumption, the prototype of which was the lover of Dumas Marie Duplessa, and her ardent admirer Arman Ducivans in this edition illustrated the drawings of two French artists: the first graphics half of the XIX century. The fields of Havarny and who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries of the painter Georges Zordik Pignon. In early February, 1847, in the great -scores of Paris, they only said that Mara Duplessa"s early passed out of life. This incredible woman, who was brought into the grave of the consumption, was only 23 years old. During her short life, she, like Cinderella from a fairy tale, made an incredible take -off, rising from the very bottom of French society to the position of a fabulously rich courtesan. As soon as she got to her feet, Duplessy left her father, who was interrupted by petty trade, and left to conquer Paris. The rich and wealthy men with whom she started novels attracted in this charming sixteen -year -old girl not only an elegant miniature figure and a pretty face. Marie was childishly directly and good, while she behaved as if there were no social barriers in the world. In addition, Marie was smart and learned to easily maintain a conversation about painting, theater and politics at the proper level. If it were not for the insidious tuberculosis, which at that time did not know how to treat, her life could have developed extremely successfully, because at the end of her short life Marie married one of her fans - the English Count Eduard Perrego. Marie met with Alexander Dumas, the son of a famous writer, three years before her death. Their novel did not last long, then the writer then simply was unable to provide his beloved with the way of life to which she had already got used to. The news of the death of Marie overtook the young Dumas when he was abroad. He hurried to Paris, but did not have time for the funeral of Duplessa. His former lover later became the prototype of Margarita Gauthier - the main character of the novel “Lady with Camellias”, Alexander Dumas wrote him a year after these events. The novel, published in 1848, was noticed and warmly accepted by the public. Everyone noted the living syllable of the author, the emotional saturation of the narrative, a light and laid -back style, which as if inherited by his son from the father crowned with honored literary laurels. The Lady in Camellia brought the younger Dumas deserved fame. Already in the 20th century, this novel was repeatedly filmed and put on stage. The role of Margarita Gauthier was played by such famous actresses as Sarah Bernard and Greta Garbo. In this edition, “Lady with Camellias” translated by S. M. Antik is illustrated by the drawings of two French artists: graphics of the first half of the XIX century. The fields of Havarny and who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries of the painter Georges Zordik Pignon. Their elegant drawings subtly convey the atmosphere of this drama, which included in the golden fund of world literature
